Captain Edwin Kaunga Muthomi, a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer based in Gilgil, is accused of fatally stabbing his wife, Anita Nyambura Mugweru, on the night of April 14, 2026, at their home in Claremont Apartments, Nakuru.The attack reportedly occurred following a domestic dispute in the kitchen over money and allegations of infidelity. According to witness accounts

  • Forced Entry: Anita reportedly locked herself in the bedroom to escape the confrontation. Captain Kaunga is accused of forcing his way in and stabbing her multiple times in the stomach with a kitchen knife.
  • Witnesses: The horrifying attack allegedly took place in front of the couple's four-year-old daughter and their house help, Winnie.
  • Aftermath: Neighbors observed Anita staggering out of the house with a knife still lodged in her body. She was rushed to Nairobi Women's Hospital, Section 58, but was pronounced dead on arrival.



    Anita, 29, was an accountant at ICS Technical College in Nakuru. Family and friends described a history of abuse:

  • Breadwinner: Anita was the primary financial support for the family, reportedly paying the rent and clearing her husband's loans even as the relationship deteriorated.
  • Mental Health Claims: Some unconfirmed reports suggest Captain Kaunga had recently been treated for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) at a mental health facility.

    Captain Kaunga Muthomi was arrested by police from the Teachers Police Post as he allegedly tried to flee the scene. On April 20, a Nakuru court granted the DCI an additional 13 days to conclude investigations. He remains in custody facing murder charges, with his next court mention scheduled for April 28, 2026
