Epic Games announced major adjustments to Fortnite's in-game economy on March 10, 2026, which took effect on March 19, 2026  While the real-money price of V-Bucks packs remained the same, the amount of currency in each pack was reduced, effectively increasing the cost per V-Buck by up to 25% for certain bundles.

The following changes were applied to standard purchase tiers:

  • $8.99 Pack: Reduced from 1,000 to 800 V-Bucks (a 20% currency reduction).
  • $22.99 Pack: Reduced from 2,800 to 2,400 V-Bucks.
  • $36.99 Pack: Reduced from 5,000 to 4,500 V-Bucks.
  • $89.99 Pack: Reduced from 13,500 to 12,500 V-Bucks.
  • Exact Amount Pack: Increased from ~$0.50 to $0.99 for 50 V-Bucks (effectively doubling the price for small top-ups

impact on Passes and Subscriptions

  • Battle Pass: The cost was lowered from 1,000 to 800 V-Bucks. However, players now only earn back 800 V-Bucks upon completion, and the 500 bonus V-Bucks previously available in bonus rewards have been removed.
  • Fortnite Crew: The monthly V-Buck stipend was reduced from 1,000 to 800 V-Bucks.
  • Other Passes: Prices for the Music Pass and LEGO Pass were lowered from 1,400 to 1,200 V-Bucks

Reasoning and Mitigation

Epic Games stated these changes were necessary to "help pay the bills" as the cost of running and maintaining the expanding Fortnite ecosystem has risen significantly. To soften the impact, Epic introduced a 20% Epic Rewards cashback system for purchases made through their own payment system on PC, mobile, and web. Existing V-Bucks gift cards were not affected and remained redeemable at their original printed values.
